Your kid's tutor might live two streets over

I'll say the biased part first. Mrs. Pollan is my daughter, Zoe.

She runs Pollan's Learning Garden, online tutoring for PreK through 5th graders in reading, writing, and math. She's a certified Texas educator with a literacy specialization rooted in the Science of Reading. And she lives right here in Lake Windcrest, which is why I wanted to put this on the neighborhood site instead of just talking about it at the mailbox.

I've watched her light up around kids and learning her whole life. So I couldn't be prouder to share her garden with our neighbors.

What she actually does

One-on-one and small group tutoring, PreK through 5th grade. Reading and phonics, writing, math.

Everything happens on Google Meet, so nobody's loading three kids in the car at 4:30 to get one of them to a 30 minute session. Your child sits at the kitchen table. You keep doing what you were doing.

All materials are included. There's no packet to print the night before and no workbook to order.

Why online works better than parents expect

This is the question she gets most, and it's fair. If a six year old can't sit through anything, how are they sitting through a video call?

Because nothing else is happening. No group to wait on, no transitions, no classroom to manage. A 30 minute session with one child is 30 minutes of that child reading and answering. Most parents are surprised how much gets covered.

For the youngest kids, two short sessions a week usually beat one long one. She'll tell you that up front rather than selling you the longer slot.

The reading part

If your child is guessing at words from the picture, that's one problem. If they read out loud just fine but can't tell you a thing about what they read, that's a different problem. They don't get the same fix.

That's the whole point of the Science of Reading piece. A lot of reading help is really just reading practice with a nice person, which is fine, but it isn't the same as teaching a kid the thing they're actually missing.

No minimums, no packages, no enrollment fee. Sessions are booked as a recurring weekly slot so you keep the same time.

There's a parent portal called the Garden Shed where session notes live, so you're not asking a seven year old to summarize what they worked on.

The small group option

Groups run two to four kids. If a couple of you have children in the same grade working on the same thing, that's a natural fit and it costs less per family. Worth mentioning to each other at the bus stop.
